Brown University starting goalie Connor Foley joins Coach Damon to talk about his journey in the cage, his energetic playing style, and the mindset that has helped him compete at the college level.
Connor explains how he first became a goalie in first grade after volunteering to replace a teammate who no longer wanted to play the position. After recording a shutout, he knew that goalie was the right fit for him.
Throughout the episode, Connor discusses his explosive and unconventional style of play, including how he uses baiting, quick reactions, communication, and his entire body to make saves. He also shares how he works on changes to his stance and technique during practice without completely changing the way he naturally plays.
Connor opens up about getting cut from Laxachusetts when he was younger and how that disappointment gave him extra motivation to improve. He later made the team and continued developing with the help of his goalie coaches.
The conversation also covers Connor’s recruiting experience, why he chose Brown, his pregame juggling routine, and the strong relationship between the goalies on Brown’s roster.
Connor believes energy and confidence are extremely important for goalies. He explains how positive self-talk, having fun, and staying focused on the next shot help him avoid getting discouraged after allowing a goal.
Of course, Connor also discusses his signature baggy sweatpants and why Brown’s entire goalie group has embraced the look.
